There is a huge, centuries old, tradition of walking in Extremadura. While people used to walk everywhere of necessity, today much of the walking is for pleasure. The evening paseo is alive and well in the smallest village and many of these also have walking groups. They get together on Sundays and holidays to explore the countryside, discover new paths, keep existing ones open and simply to walk in one of Europe's most unspoiled areas.

Finca Flores Amarillas in Guadalupe, Extremadura, Spain So we finally made it to Guadalupe, a beautiful medieval town that sits high up on the slopes of the Sierra de Las Villuercas in the province of Cáceres. It's about an hour's drive from our Finca and is one of those places on your doorstep that you keep saying you must visit but never actually do. I still haven't been to the Tower of London, but then I only lived in London for 10 years. Hardly enough time to have a cup of tea, really.
If you have never heard of Cáceres or have no idea what to expect, keep reading. You will wonder why you haven’t added this UNESCO World Heritage Site to your bucket list sooner.
The following post was first published nearly 4 years ago, but not much has changed - we still entertain family at Christmas and have to count on José's help.
