More than 30 years ago, the founders of Rabitos Royale, Senador and Felipa Valero, were living in Barcelona but yearning to return to their home town Almoharín in Extremadura, Spain.
Almoharín had a long tradition of growing figs, and the Valeros decided to take Almoharin’s star product and turn it into a delicious bonbon. After months of tuning and tweaking their initial recipe, they finally settled for one. Carefully selected dry figs, truffle filling with a touch of brandy, a thin layer of chocolate, and voilà! With time, the business was passed on to Senador’s and Felipa’s children, and the recipe, unchanged since its origins, has remained a family secret.
For the first 20 years, the patent protected Rabitos Royale from dealing with competition, but the patent has since expired, and today it’s the quality of the fig bonbons that sets Rabitos Royale apart from other producers.
Today, there are four different flavours to choose from – the original one with dark chocolate, a salted caramel one with milk chocolate, a strawberry flavoured one with white chocolate, and a cava (champagne) infused one with ruby chocolate.
