Extremadura Au Naturel

There are plenty of reasons for visiting Extremadura.  You might be a history buff or a foodie and certainly you will be well catered for in this part of Spain.  You may simply be in transit to Portugal or the beaches of south west Spain. 

​However, given that Extremadura offers some of the best walking and bird-watching possibilities in Europe, we highly recommend that you take some time to explore on foot the beautiful nature and discover a unique flora and fauna.

Often considered to be the forgotten part of Spain, this has worked in Extremadura's favour.  Without the mass tourism that characterises other parts of the country, wildlife, and especially birds, have flourished here. 

There are several areas under special protection, most notably the National Park of Monfragüe, which gives a further boost to bird populations and Extremadura has long been considered a Mecca by bird watching specialists. ​

The different landscapes (woodlands, meadows, mountains steppes, rivers) that you find in Extremadura, encourage a huge variety of bird species, some of which are found nowhere else in Europe or even the rest of the world.

Walking amongst this beautiful nature is truly uplifting and the possibilities to explore the area on foot are practically limitless.  There is a vast network of trails and paths criss-crossing the province, taking you through scenic countryside and offering marvellous views and great photo opportunities.

​​And whilst you rarely see another soul during your outing, there's usually a cute village somewhere nearby to recharge the batteries and ready yourself for more. ​
